July 3, 2009

RECALL OF LG-442 LASERGRIPS® FOR BERSA THUNDER & FIRESTORM

Dear Crimson Trace Customer:

Crimson Trace has received a small number of reports from consumers regarding the LG-442 Lasergrips for Bersa Thunder & Firestorm semi-auto pistols. When operated under normal firing conditions, the trigger transfer bar spring may disengage from its slot on the trigger transfer bar. The Lasergrips panel allows the spring to completely detach from the trigger transfer bar, thus disarming the trigger and rendering the gun inoperable.

No injuries have been reported, but Crimson Trace is committed to designing and manufacturing products that will not interfere with the operation of a firearm and thus is initiating a 100% recall of all units produced. The LG-442 grip design has been modified to prevent this from occurring.

Please Note: This issue is limited only to the LG-442, and does not pertain to any other Crimson Trace product.

Customers have the option of choosing a new LG-442 unit in exchange for their defective one, or they may choose another Crimson Trace laser sight model of equivalent value, once the defective unit has been returned to Crimson Trace.

Customers should contact Crimson Trace to receive a return authorization and instructions on how to execute the no-cost recall: Telephone 1 (800) 442-2406 Email LG442recall@crimsontrace.com Fax 1 (503) 783-5334 Crimson Trace regrets any inconvenience this may cause.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Nate Hoke

Customer Service Director

545 vs 300,000,000

EVERY CITIZEN NEEDS TO READ THIS AND THINK ABOUT WHAT THIS JOURNALIST HAS SCRIPTED IN THIS MESSAGE. READ IT AND THEN REALLY THINK ABOUT OUR CURRENT POLITICAL DEBACLE.

Charley Reese has been a journalist for 49 years.

545 PEOPLE

By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations.. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does..

You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash.

The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine how he votes..

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is also the leader of the majority party.

She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want.. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red .

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it’s because they want them in IRAQ

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it that way..

There are no insolvable government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We must vote ALL of them out of office and clean up their mess! Whatever you do,….next election,

DO NOT RE-ELECT ANY OF THESE INDIVIDUALS!!!!!

Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper.

Background

I was a late comer to the sport of shooting. But with the help of some friends and a lot of help from the guys at A&S Indoor Pistol Range, I finally settled on the Springfield XD9. To this day, it is my gun of choice. Although, I do have to admit a particular fondness for my Stainless Ruger 22/45.

I did have one complaint with the XD. Between the glare from my glasses, the lights behind me at the range and a bit of a low light situation, I had some difficulty seeing the sights, especially after trying a friends Glock with tritium sights.

But, I could not afford tritium sights and after learning about the gradual decay rate, I lost interest because I did not want to have to replace them frequently as they became dim.

Failed Attempts at Improvement

Then one day it occurred to me. I decided to take some white enamel and put a spot in the dots on the site. Well that made a little difference, but I was not thrilled with the results.

Next, knowing that the stripes in the road seem bright because they mix tiny beads of glass in the paint, I thought ah ha, that is what I need to do. No luck there, this feeble attempt actually made things worse.

Ok, I really put on my thinking cap. Was there a way I could make a sight that was visible in low light or the dark. So I bought an old alarm clock off of ebay that had a radium dial. I carefully stripped the paint of the hands of the clock, mixed it with a little clear nail polish and painted the sights. Don’t bother trying this, it just makes a mess and does little or nothing to improve sight visibility.

Ok, what about glow in the dark paint. This seemed like a possible solution, except my one concern was that these paints diminish in visibility fairly quickly. My hunch was right, after a couple of hours the glow in the dark effect was all but gone. And on top of that, the glow in the dark paint did nothing to improve daytime or low light visibility.

So what is a cheap bastard to do?

The Simple Solution

I was driving out to our country home one night and noticed the reflective stripes a neighbor had put on their mail box. Wow. Even from a 1/4 mile away, those stripes popped out. But how could I apply this to a gun sight?

Here is what I did and you can easily do yourself.

I made a quick run to the hardware store and bought the smallest roll of 3M white reflective tape I could find

I went to a local fabric store and bought a hole punch used for punching holes in leather belts

Using the punch that pulled a plug closest in size to the depression in the XDs’ iron sights, I punched half a dozen holes in the reflective tape

With a small needle, I pushed the reflective tape chad out of the punch and onto a black piece of cloth where they were easy to see

Using a pin, I carefully peeled the back off of the little chad exposing the adhesive back

Very carefully, using small tweezers, I placed the small reflective dots into the depressions in the XD’s iron sights

Because I was afraid the dots would jar out when firing the pistol, I placed a very thin coating of clear fingernail polish over the reflective dot. (I can’t remember, but I may have put a little clear fingernail polish in the sight depressions before applying the reflective dot)

Using nail polish remover and a Q-tip, I carefully cleaned off all the residual clear fingernail polish

The rest, as they say is history. Those little dots have been in my XD for 5 or more years. I am so used to them, I almost forgot that they were not original equipment.

If you have a little trouble seeing your sights, you may want to give this a try. I am sure it will work for other guns as well, but I have only tried it on my XD.

I don’t have a “before” shot, but the image is how the sights look today.

With regard to the Second Amendment, we are struggling with the debate because we assume solid logic will win an emotional debate.

The first thing any marketing or sales training teaches is that emotions motivate people, not logic.

When defending the Second Amendment, often the defense is presented as a litnay of logical facts. Meanwhile the anti-gun folks, make an emotional plea about the lost life of a child, even though it may be a violent 17 year old gang banger.

We can discuss statistics all day long. Unarmed cities have higher violent crime rates. There is probably a statistic out there that says less than .00x% of all gun deaths were caused by guns without human involvement. (ie got bounded around in a car or something.) Hence, statistically we can prove guns don’t kill people; people kill people.

We can point out that there are hundreds of gun laws on the books and that adding more will no more make violent crime go away than making droughts illegal will prevent crop failures.

The arguments fall on deaf ears. To someone who has bought into the emotional arguments about gun violence, the last thing that will reach them is logic or statistics. For them, it is impossible to get past the lost child.

It is not unlike the debate over DDT. Until it was banned, death from mosquito borne malaria was all but eradicated. Since being banned, millions of people, including children suffer and die from malaria. But there is no outcry because we have saved some poor insects that were suffering at the hands of the evil western chemists.

Maslow and the Tombstone Syndrome
Consider Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs. The farther we get away from survival, the more our attention is drawn to self-actualization and fulfilment.

When survival is at stake, we want Wyatt Earp and his brothers in our town cleaning up the bad guys. And, we are glad to have them there . . . Until, lacking evil bad guys, the Earp’s coarseness stands out in deference to our refined, kinder, gentler, self-actualized society. So we run them out of town. Good riddance!

As gun owners and enthusiasts, are we not a bit like the Earps?

The fact that we believe people have the right and responsibility to defend themselves offends the ”evolved” citizen that decries “can’t we all just get along?”

The fact we feel (on occasion) it takes deadly force or at least the threat of deadly force to protect ourselves, makes us appear savage to our kinder, gentler, neighbors who feel there is no greater protection than having 911 on speed dial.

So Why Do Guns Get the Bad Wrap Instead of the Bad Guy?
Like it or not our brains are wired up to take random events and ascribe some logic or meaning. Pure randomness offends our thinking.

Have you ever know someone who, after an accident, tortured themselves with “if only I had done X, this would not have happened?”

They feel that if they would have left earlier, later, had more sleep or whatever they could have avoided the accident. They believe their actions (or lack of them) caused the event. Brains want a cause for every effect, and lacking a “real” cause, they fabricate their own.

So as people evolve, and in their minds, rise above violence, their perception of the world gets distorted. From their perspective it is easy to assume that people are always good. And, good people cannot possibly succumb to violence without a cause.

To them, genetic dice cannot randomly turn out a truly bad person, therefore there must be a cause. Hence, GUNS are the problem, if we didn’t have them, people wouldn’t shoot people? Children wouldn’t die.

But, if there is violence, it must be because we have just not tried hard enough to love each other. Randomness has nothing to do with violence, it must be lack or nurturing, poor parenting, some other misfortune.

Personally, I don’t care if Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, or some low life home invader was forced to eat shoe leather as a two year old. Millions of people consistently rise above incredible suffering to live within society.

So if the scumbags are suffering so much that they feel compelled to commit horrific crimes, put them out of their misery and move on. They will be happier and society will be better for it.

The Disturbing Reality: Facts Mean Nothing
Are you familiar with the Civilian Gun Self-Defense Blog? It is a great site full of the information we instinctively understand, but is completely lost on the “ban the guns crowd.“

If logic and facts fail to persuade, what are we to do?

How do you argue with people who will gladly sacrifice freedom for a false sense of security?

Why is it becoming a seemingly more ”conservative” issue, when in fact no ideology is safe in an unarmed society?

How do we discuss self-defense and gun issues with those who prefer to take no personal responsibility for their own safety or actions?

How do we change the thinking of people who are too lazy or unwilling to think for themselves?

How do we have an honest debate when the need to fil 24 hours of news results in endless rehashing of random acts?

How do we have an honest debate, when political camps are so homogeneous, they must trump up divisive points of view just to carve out a niche?

Granted, the battle is not over. Maybe, given Obama’s slippery positions on many issues, people will realize what’s at stake. Certainly gun sales are on the rise.

Have you ever known someone who had a near fatal heart attack? All of a sudden they are telling you how you should eat. Will it be the same with the people who feel a diet of mainstream media is a source of relevant news? Will they have a change of heart as the Constitution suffers a potentially fatal attack of apathy?

Why is it, people spend a fortune on insurances to mitigate some potential damage of some statistically improbable catastrophic event, but in the face of losing Constitutional Freedoms, will not even invest the time to understand the issues.

“How do I hit my target in low light and/or stressful situations?”

Unless you are very highly trained to react under stressful situations, here is what will happen.

The fear of danger from a real or perceived attack causes your heart rate to speed up.

At around 115 beats per minute, you begin to lose fine motor skills, even holding a gun steady to use the iron sights becomes difficult.

At 145-175 beats per minute, tunnel vision sets in and focusing on the front sight of your gun becomes impossible.

Your natural response will be to focus on your threat, not the sights.

If you are falling or retreating, you have neither the time nor fine motor skills to focus on your gun’s iron sights.

If your assailant is moving, unless you are very highly trained in live action shooting, you will not be able to follow your target with traditional iron sights. Your assailant can be upon you before you can make an accurate shot.

When shooting from cover or a down position the time it takes to accurately aim the gun with iorn sights puts you at risk because of the inability to respond, or having to expose more of your body and head to line up iron sights.

How Laser Sights Help

Laser sights put a spot right on the target where the bullet will hit, regardless of your how your eye is oriented towards the sights.

Laser sights enable you to stay focused on the threat, a far more natural response for a person under stress.

It is much easier to point your gun and keep the laser spot on the target when you are focusing on the threat instead of desperately trying to find the iron sight.

By focusing on the threat, you are in a far better position to make sure the threat is real instead of perceived. Since your focus will be on the assailant, instead of the iron sights, it will be easier for you to judge if they have a weapon.

If falling or in a down position, all you need to do is point the gun and watch for the spot on the assailant.

If shooting from cover, you can have your head far away from the firearm as long as you can see the laser spot on the assailant.

How Laser Sights Improve Your Shooting Technique

Particularly when doing dry fire practice, as you line up the laser on your target, you will instantly see if your tendency is to aim high, low, left or right of the intended spot. Further as you pull the trigger, you will immediately notice if you are pulling the gun to one side or another or have any jerking motions. You will see how your unconscious movements greatly reduce your accuracy. And, you will be able to correct bad behavior.

Subject: Recall Of LG-432 Lasergrips for Sig Sauer P230/P232

Dear Crimson Trace Customer:

Crimson Trace has received a small number of reports from consumers that the LG-432 Lasergrips for Sig Sauer P230 and P232 semi-auto pistols may allow the mainspring to detach when the magazine release is depressed without a magazine in place, rendering the firearm inoperable.

No injuries have been reported, but Crimson Trace is committed to designing and manufacturing products that will not interfere with the operation of a firearm and thus is initiating a 100% recall of all units produced. The LG-432 grip design has been modified to prevent this from occurring.

Please Note: This issue is limited only to the LG-432, and does not pertain to any other Crimson Trace product.

Customers have the option of choosing a new LG-432 unit in exchange for their defective one, or they may choose another Crimson Trace laser sight model of equivalent value.

Customers should contact Crimson Trace to receive a return authorization and instructions on how to execute the no-cost recall:
